Last night, the Culver City Bicycle Coalition received a commendation from the Culver City Council for hosting a cleanup site along Ballona Creek for California Coastal Cleanup Day on September 17, 2011. Co-founders Howard Cohen and Meghan Sahli-Wells accepted the certificate on behalf of CCBC. Also celebrated were members of Heal the Bay, Ballona Creek Renaissance, Kiwanis Club, and the Echo Horizon School.

This was CCBC’s first year hosting a site for the annual California Cleanup, part of an international effort to clear inland and coastal areas of the trash that eventually finds its way into the ocean. Said CCBC co-founder Jim Shanman: “The CCBC is pleased to be participating in this year’s creek cleanup day. Ballona Creek and the adjoining bike path are integral to improving the quality of life in and around Culver City. Doing our part to support the efforts of Ballona Creek Renaissance and Heal the Bay is essential to preserving this important resource.”
